To achieve the perfect skin, appearing fine, smooth, supple and clean with a beautiful glow, it is mandatory with “the correct” daily care. If we don’t take care of our skin, we can encounter serious problems. We all have different skin and what works for your girlfriend, mom or grandmother may not be good for you and vice versa. Although your skin type may be hereditary, it is not always genetically determined which skin type you have. Also note that your skin changes throughout life, among other things, due to hormonal fluctuations. Therefore, you can easily migrate from having an oily skin type while young to developing dry skin type as an adult or vice versa.

Learn about your skin types and get good advice on optimal care both inside and out. You do not need to use all the proposed products, however, see them as the options you can optimally choose to allow a skin care program based on your lifestyle – it is about your individual temperament and desire. Some “super users” prefer enjoying many products in their daily routine, while others want a more simplified routine consisting of just a few products.

SKIN CARE PROGRAMS

Normal Skin

Normal skin is ironically the rarest skin type, actually in perfect balance from nature’s side. Thankfully, it is virtually without skin care rituals. Normal skin feels soft and supple, while the color is fresh and healthy due to the good microcirculation. The pores are fine and the structure smooth and uniform. Normal skin is also neither dry, impure, oily, rough, dull or tight, as it is, by nature, self-regulating.

The following represents a selection of products that you can select among and customise for your optimal daily skin care routine. Whether you choose a simple or more advanced selection for your skin care program is an individual matter of choice.

Dry Skin

If your skin does not form as much natural fat – also called sebum – you can call it the dry skin type. The skin may also have been dried out due to external factors such as wind, cold, frost or too much sun. In addition, skin can become dehydrated and deprived by use of wrong or harsh skin care products. The dry skin type is usually very nice and hassle-free by nature, but it ages prematurely, unless you take good care of it.

Dehydrated Skin

Dehydration is a skin condition and not an actual skin type. The condition occurs as a temporary condition, where it is primarily the surface of the skin that has dried out.

Dehydration is also a physical condition that affects the whole body and thus also the skin. The condition always occurs due to moisture loss, but the cause can be several. All skin types can experience dehydration, and it should therefore not be confused with dry skin as a skin type.

Climate and environment also have a great influence on the body’s hydration system and fluid balance. Cold outdoor climate, artificial indoor heating and air conditioning are often very dehydrating. Some medicines can also upset the fluid balance – go to your doctor in such cases and always ask about the use of medicine in consultation. You can test for dehydration by squeezing the skin on the back of the hand between two fingers. If the skin fold remains “standing”, rather than smoothing out quickly, it is a sign of dehydration.

Characteristics of dehydration:

  • Parchment-like and porous surface
  • Flaking – often localized
  • Small, fine lines
  • Closed / encapsulated blackheads may occur
  • Comedones – often numerous around the eyes
  • Dark urine

Dehydration can be caused by:

  • Lack of fluid intake
  • Inability to bind fluid
  • Missing barrier membrane (acid mantle)

Sensitive Skin

The sensitive skin type is often common in the Nordic countries and is characterized by being light and fine. Sensitive skin often reacts excessively to external influences by blushing and flaring up. Sensitive skin is light in colour and does not tolerate sun exposure well, so it is recommended that you avoid the sun as much as possible. In contrast, sensitive skin is fine as a porcelain doll!

Characteristics of sensitive skin are a fine and thin skin. Blood vessels are extremely prone to vascular bursts. The skin flares and blushes easily and responds easily to irritation from cold, heat and interaction with wool, for example. Moreover, sensitive skin does not tolerate sun exposure.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is the type of skin where individual skin areas can be slightly greasy with slightly coarse pores for example on the nose, forehead and chin, while the skin is dry on the rest of the face. Combination skin tends to be dry in individual skin areas, while having shiny and greasy areas with coarse and visible pores elsewhere. Combination skin can be impure for periods.

Oily & Problem Skin

If the skin forms large amounts of sebum, which is the skin’s own lubrication, it is referred to as oily. Oily skin is well-equipped and naturally protected, with sebum acting as protection against external factors such as wind and weather as well as a moisture-retaining membrane that prevents moisture evaporating through the skin’s surface.

Oily skin needs to be thoroughly cleansed in the morning and evening, so that the sebum does not clog and bloat the pores that may otherwise become coarse and enlarged. On the other hand, it must not be dried out, as the skin will otherwise compensate by producing even more sebum. Also, if the pores are filled with sebum, there is a risk that the so-called acne bacteria that live from sebum can develop, which they decompose to enormous irritation to the skin. Once the acne bacterium first emerges, getting rid of it can be difficult. In many cases, it is necessary to seek medical treatment, just as if you had an eye infection.

Oily skin is characterized by visible and coarse pores. It feels a little thick in the structure and tends to have impurities and to become glossy and shiny.

Aging Skin

Unfortunately, all of us will experience our skin aging. But we can still do what we can to defer the tedious processes that cause our face to change character due to wrinkles and looser skin. It is the deep lines and wrinkles that cause the mouth to pull downwards, the wrinkles in the forehead, the weakness in the tissue around the neck, or the deep crevices between the eyebrows that we would like to defer as long as possible. In contrast, some smiling wrinkles can give character, but preferably if they are just there when we smile.

Aging skin is also characterized by a parchment-like surface, which is seen as many small wrinkles in the skin’s surface, so that it will look a little “waffle-ish”, as well as irregularities in the pigmentation or so-called “liver spots”.

Acne & Blemished Skin

Unfortunately, many people only choose to see acne and impure skin as a cosmetic problem. But the reality is that acne is a chronic infection and inflammatory condition that affects your immune system and thus your whole body in the same way that eye inflammation does. Therefore, you should be seen by a dermatologist if the problems last more than three to four months.

Characteristics of acne:

  • Either a dry or greasy surface
  • Enlarged, coarse pores
  • Often in a state of sensitivity and skin redness due to inflammation
  • Impurities, inflammation and “pus” on the surface
  • Dry acne areas
  • Scarring

Impurities and acne can be caused by:

  • Increased sebum production
  • Internal imbalance – elevated testosterone
  • Wrong treatment
  • An inflammatory condition located in the deeper skin tissue
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Medical treatment

Rosacea

The reactive rosacea skin type is very often seen here in the Nordic countries and is characterized by often reacting violently to external influences by blushing and flaring up. Rosacea is characterized by a chronic inflammatory condition of the outer capillaries of the skin. Rosacea skin can be easily reactive, which can cause rashes, bumps and, in the worst case, eczema. Rosacea skin is usually a congenital condition of genetic cause that can suddenly flare up, making the skin particularly reactive to external factors and stress.

Characteristics of rosacea skin:

  • Does not withstand pressure, touch, heat and friction
  • Sensitive (delicate nerve endings)
  • Does not withstand wind, weather and cold
  • Does not tolerate drying out by hot water
  • Flares and blushes easily

Rosacea can be caused and aggravated by the following:

  • Most often a generic congenital condition
  • Hormonal causes
  • Pressure and touch
  • Heat
  • Cold
  • Mental conditions such as grief, stress, depression, etc.
  • Allergy / Eczema
  • Medicine
